Yankees vs Giants to Open MLB 2026 Season with Earliest US Opener in History

New York, August 27, 2025 — Major League Baseball has released its 2026 regular season schedule, with a historic start date that sets a new milestone. The New York Yankees will face the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park on March 25, 2026, marking the earliest Opening Day in US MLB history.
The following day, fans can expect a full slate of 14 games, continuing the season’s momentum. While MLB has staged earlier openers internationally, this will be the first time an American opener occurs so early on the calendar.
The 96th MLB All-Star Game is scheduled for July 14, 2026, in Philadelphia — the city’s first time hosting since 1996. The mid-summer classic will highlight what is expected to be one of the most competitive MLB seasons in recent years.
As part of the 2026 lineup, MLB will also stage another “Rivalry Weekend” from May 15–17, showcasing some of baseball’s most iconic matchups. Featured series include:
- New York Yankees vs New York Mets
- Chicago Cubs vs Chicago White Sox
- Los Angeles Dodgers vs Los Angeles Angels
- Texas Rangers vs Houston Astros
Fans can also look forward to inter-league rivalries throughout the season, including the Dodgers at Yankees (July 17–19), the Yankees at Cubs (July 31–August 2), and the Cubs at Boston Red Sox (September 25–27), which will close out the regular season. Another highlight will be the Red Sox at St. Louis Cardinals series from April 10–12.
Adding to the significance of the season, the Yankees will host the Mets from September 11–13, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York City.
Meanwhile, the Oakland Athletics, still awaiting the completion of their new ballpark in Nevada, will continue to play home games in Sacramento. Additionally, they will host six games in Las Vegas at a minor-league stadium — facing Milwaukee (June 8–10) and Colorado (June 12–14).
With early openers, rivalry-packed weekends, and the All-Star Game returning to Philadelphia, the 2026 MLB season promises to be a landmark year for fans across the country.
